Did I get swindled

dj*mpulse said: I am an eight handicapper and currently play a 2002/3 Calloway Titanium 9 degree firm flex shafted driver. I consistently hit drives in the 280-300 range, I have purchased a nonconforming R7 quad with 9.5 degree loft and can only put the ball out there 260 yrds. The R7 has a proforce 65 xstiff with stiff tip shaft. Would there be a 40-50 yrd loss if the shaft wasn't right for me? I am not too sure what my swing speed is but I am 6'2 and I am fairly strong, any suggestions or possible explanations for the drop in distance with this new club?

d*ve. said: Its entirely possible to lose a lot of distance if the ball flight is wrong, the ball could be dropping out of the air,and those Proforce shafts are stiff to start with, never mind at extra stiff (personally,I find them a bit hard feling for me) possibly a fake, although I can't imagine a fake with that shaft in it,so my bet is you don't on with teh shaft

D*vebud said: Could be the shaft is a large part of it. I just hit the Nike Squatch the other day and I lost about 30 yards on average on my drives as versus my Callaway with a firm flex, I also go 280-300 on average and while I was using a stiff flex, I do not think it was the shaft so much as my swing being used to my own shaft. For another example I hit my mother in laws new driver with an L-flex and was only able to hit it 20 straight, any more of a swing than that left the face open and the ball went on a bannana flight. Just pratice with the shaft more and you should find 20-30 of those yards again. Different question though, what did your ball flight look like?

dj*mpulse said: I have always hit a low rising drive with the 9 degree and with this new r7 9.5 I seem to be hitting really low drives without the rise.

*bagain said: The wrong shaft can make that much difference. The ball can be wrong for that club. It could be a fake but the weights will give away a lot of the fakes. A lot of the fakes come with shafts that look like high price shafts. Yes, they make fake shafts also.

dj*mpulse said: I purchased the club brand new with all the taylor made accessories and it also came with some original paperwork(not sure what the heck it said I was more interested in getting to the range to unload with this thing) Is there some way to have the club tested? Would I bring the club to a club maker or some large golf chain ie. Golf USA, Edwin Watts? How would I find what shaft works for me?

w*rbirdlover said: Try to put the same shaft in the new driver that you had in the old (you don't say what that was) or one with similar characteristics. (You'd have to be a GORILLA to hit an x-stiff Proforce shaft).

Pr*jectX said: Like the other guys said, it's probably a bad combination. The Pro Force shafts are a little notorious for playing a bit stiffer than flex to begin with. Also, alot of TM heads have deeper than normal insertions, so a shaft that is tip stiff to begin with gets worse. If you still have your old driver, take them both to a good clubfitter (or Golfsmith) and have them compared for frequency. A good club guy should have a freq analyzer that can be used to plot the shaft characteristics. I wouldn't be surprised to see the R7 cycle significantly higher, especially from the mid point down.

*zra76 said: I bought a TM R7TP earlier in the summer and was thinking a possible fake. I couldn't hit it worth a damn. I had to slow my tempo way down just to get 240-250 out of it. The shaft was a Fujikura Tour Platform 26.3. Pretty much the exact opposite shaft as what my swing requires. Looked pretty cool though. http://www.shottalk.com/forum/images/icons/icon10.gif

J*FF4i said: Yeah that TP is a tough club, but much like blades, once you get it down, hooooey it's a nice club.
