My morning at the shop....

R*ckford35 said: *This thread will take an incredible amount of tangents, so please bare with me.... Went to the shop this morning to pick up my Rifle Spinner shafts. No dice, still on order. Nice. What's this? The new SuperQuad, HiBore XL Tour, Nike SUMO2 still on sale, and the new Geomax from TE? And low and behold, are those the new Burners I spy? Needles to say, I'm in the cage.SuperQuad This is the first TM driver that I have hit that I actually don't mind. It's pleasing from address and the ball feels nice and solid off the face. Stock Reax sucks tho. Way too soft. The black colour that everyone raves about is nothing special. I guess when you release the same driver every 24 minutes, you gotta do something to switch it up. Overall, good driver in my opinion. I'd give it a 9 based on indoor net and launch monitor numbers. HiBore XL Tour The best I've hit this year in terms of feel. Solid, OEM shaft is even good (this one had a V2 in it, which I like). Sound is great, but I'm biased coming off the regular HB. Ball dances off the face. Looks odd at address tho, like someone stepped on a regular HB and stretched it out. It would take more time for me to get used to that egg shape. Overall, 8.5/10 (only because of the shape).Nike SuMo2 I took 5 swings with this, and then put my jacket over it so I wouldn't ever have to look at it again. What a disaster.Geomax from TE This was a surprisingly solid driver. The face feels hot and the head responds well to good swings. Tim had this pegged at the PGA show, it's gonna be a winner. Also the cheapest of the bunch - BY FAR. Overall, 8/10.Burner by TM This thing is an enigma. You can basically put it on the face anywhere and it goes relatively straight. But the feel is like hitting a ball with a plastic bucket attached to a fly rod. This thing has to be 8 feet long, and I play a 45.75" driver! Insane! I didn't like the muted feel, nor the sound, nor the look, nor the grip, nor the headcover. Not my bag. Overall, 6.5/10. At this point, I thought I was done. I was pretty sweaty, so I figured why not.Big Bertha 460 I like this thing. It's grossly coloured, but it just plain works. Sound is decent, feel is good and it's forgiving as all hell. I would seriously recommend this to any high handicapper - it's a stroke saver forsure. Overall, 8.5/10.Bobby Jones 460 I had never seen these before. They're....interesting. The grip sucks - SUCKS. It could easuly be the worst grip ever made. Not surprisingly, it's a Winn. The head feels hollow to me. I took about 3 swings with this, and realized that the "stiff" shaft they had in it was 50 grams and waaaaaaaay too soft for me. Overall, 4/10. Which sorta sucks, cuz it's a conversation peice. At this point, I'm done. I'm not hitting anything else. So this dude walks up and he says "Ever hit this thing?" He hands me a regular HiBore. I sorta laugh to myself and tell him about my recent departure from the HiBore owners club. It's a V2 shafted stiff flex, so i give it a go for him. Two balls through the net and into the drywall later, I'm sitting on my hands wondering why the HELL I ever sold that thing. The moral of the rant is, I'm an idiot. Not like any of you needed clarification. I'll be in the bathroom bawling if you need me. R35

D*nnykos said: so did you politely tell them to take the SUMO2's of the shelf?

R*ckford35 said: Quote: Originally Posted by VtDivot No FT-5???? Nope, didn't have one with a stiff flex shaft or lower than 10.5*. And, officially, the SUMO2 hasn't been pulled in Canada (yet). R35

f*otballking732 said: wow, that sucks.. you know i can take that ft-3 off your hands for $75 maybe $80... here ill trade you my retail hibore for your ft3... although mine has a 10.5 loft... but seriously, will you trade/sell me the ft-3?

w*rbirdlover said: Come on R35!! You went through this same bull when you got the HiBore and sold the Launcher. You KNOW the driver you got now is a winner and it's a Cally and you LOVE Cally's!! You should be happy!!

*ndy_79 said: Lol, great review - love it ! :D What is the craic with these 50g shafts, anyway ?! Load of balls, that is..!

Sorry dude, the FT-3 stays. It's a bomber and I love the feel. I noticed that alot of the new drivers had sub-60 gram shafts in them. Geomax, Bobby Jones, Burner, ect. Maybe cheaper to produce? I dunno...too light for my standards... R35

R35 yeah i just found an amazing deal on one, i have a little secret up my sleeve, that ill tell you guys about after i win this ft3 for $50...

S*an said: I tried the Burner today and agree. Felt like ass when I hit it, no matter how perfect the swing. 'Like a bucket on the end of a fly rod" seems about right, lol.

Got about as much sympathy for you here as I would have with a real ho who gets...critters...;) Not what I wanted to hear about the Burner...really want to try that one...try, not buy...

R*ckford35 said: Quote: Originally Posted by MCDavis Not what I wanted to hear about the Burner...really want to try that one...try, not buy... You're not a ho if you try. Well, unless you use Farq's logic....:D R35

MCD*vis said: Trying to end the ho'ing before I'm in too deep.

D*nnykos said: the lighter shafts are to get the MOI numbers up. the burner has a specially designed ultra-light grip too. Basically just reverse lead-weighting - take weight off everywhere except the head, to increase MOI

w*rbirdlover said: And a lighter club means the old duffers can swing faster... (no not me you a**holes!!!)....

*altim said: Nice report Rock, glad to see that we agree on a few things. Maybe I should try an FT-3:D Right. Won't happen. An FT-5 maybe, when the price comes down. After you hit the Superquad and FT-5, the Burner and BB460 just don't measure up. The best deal in drivers is still the TE Geomax. You are not going to find a better driver for $199 new. I am also starting to thing that we are seeing signs of Rock starting to waffle on his anti-ho campaign. A trip to the hitting bays is a sure signs of cracks in the foundation. :D

R*ckford35 said: Quote: Originally Posted by ualtim I am also starting to thing that we are seeing signs of Rock starting to waffle on his anti-ho campaign. A trip to the hitting bays is a sure signs of cracks in the foundation. :D I didn't buy anything. And, I didn't check E-bay, 4GEA, GD, FGI, GWRX or OG when I got home either. :D I'm seriously done. Short of shafts, my bag is complete. New spinner in my 49*, another in my second driver and that's it. I'm completely content. I did go to another shop this afternoon and hit the MX500 Mizzy driver and the MP-60s and 67's. The Mizzy is pretty decent, the 60's are good, but the 67's are on my list to ho in '08. Simply magnificent. R35

ch*mboy2 said: I got the mp67 PW and I love it! I'm a few days away from a new iron set but that is staying in the bag!! I just wish my game was solid enough to play the rest of the set. :(

Dude, you in trouble and you just don't know it. :D Relax, take a deep breath, repeat after me: I will not ho again, I will not ho again, I will not ho again. I am starting to think that Sling will have to start taking some of the member dues and start supporting the "Anti-ho Clinic" which we will probably have to name in honor of Ezra after he dies from a tragic ho'ing incident when the UPS guy accidently drops all of his eBay scores for the day on top of him suffocating him to death. You know what, I am done. After the one eBay aution ends (that I am currently winning by the way :D), I am done with ho'ing for the season with the sole exception of shafts/grips or other consumables and/or tools. No Quadratic, no HiBore, no putters, no wedges, just no more clubheads period. I feel that my ho'ing is only fostering additional ho'ing by other board members. I am done. Whose with me?

R*ckford35 said: Dude, I started this a week ago. "That just happened!" :D 6 months. I'm telling ya. R35

*altim said: Quote: Originally Posted by Rockford35 6 months. I'm telling ya. R35 I'm done. Unlike you, I am stocked up for the nuclear winter. Probably at least 5 full sets to choose from plus an immense stock of putters. I think I can weather the storm longer than 6 months. So, they always say the best way to get through this is to have some one else keep an eye on you. You got my back, Pedro? :D Set the initial limit at Jan 1, 2008? No more clubs/clubheads?

R*ckford35 said: January 1? Hmm...I could probably do it, but I won't. I already conceded to the end of August. Fall is when the crazy deals happen. I can't let that slide. Dude, I can't. :D However, I can hold your hand til the new year. 5 sets....I wouldn't ho either! R35

*zra76 said: Wow, Superquad gets a 9/10 from you???? That's like a 14/10 if it said Cleveland on it. :)

R*ckford35 said: Quote: Originally Posted by ezra76 Wow, Superquad gets a 9/10 from you???? It feels like it bends about 2" from the grip and no where else. WTF is that? What weight configuration does yours have? I've heard that guys are loading up on it and the head is caving. The Burner is garbage. I wouldn't play that if someone gave it to me. R35

The guy that fitted me for my sticks told us to stray away from that driver, unless you're a duffer, in which case it ain't a bad solution. Basically told us it sucks, as he did about Mizuno's ball. 'X8' is it called ? Not being launched in the UK that, anyway. The guys in the factory told us it was real bad, which surprised me no end.

*ndy_79 said: Quote: Originally Posted by Rockford35 That REAX sucks donkey dangles tho. Just the worst feel ever. It feels like it bends about 2" from the grip and no where else. WTF is that? That is what I thought about it. Weren't you a fan of the original Quad, Rock..?

*zra76 said: Yeah, the Reax is not the greatest but a decent OEM to me, of course I liked the MAS2 also, probably only guy on the planet. I have mine set up stock 1,12,12,1. I may mess with it and go 4,8,12,2 or something but not anything stupid like 4-12's or something. The highest TM weights you can get are 14's and they only come in the FW woods I beleive. They have the "homemade" ones on Ebay like 18 and 22g's. Anyone stupid enough to stick one of those in there deserves to have it cave in.

R*ckford35 said: Quote: Originally Posted by Andy_79 That is what I thought about it. Weren't you a fan of the original Quad, Rock..? Nope. Looked to "bulbous" at address. Ya, I'm picky. It's a good driver tho, as many can attest. R35

k*wi said: oh man I forget too stop by for a few days and you've ditched the Hi-Bore, come on rock, you know you want an XL... I just ordered mine... and I'm also trying to get an old Comp again as well. Yes that will be my 3rd one of them

R*ckford35 said: XL...Tour? R35

*mc said: Good review. I presume the lightening of shafts is for more distance, swinging the club faster etc. Re the ReAx, I have one in the 3 wood and think it's fine if you're smooth with it, on the ballooning side though
